The Ovenden Moor wind farm is located close to the town of Halifax in West Yorkshire, UK, and was developed in 1993 by a joint venture between E.ON and Energy Power Resources Ltd (EPRL). The replacement of the old turbines by modern technology will enable the facility to generate twice as much power using less than half as many turbines.
Under the agreement, Gamesa will supply, install and commission nine G80-2.0 MW wind turbines at the wind farm, replacing 23 existing turbines that are 22 years old. The new turbines will generate 18 MW of power, enough to supply 12,000 homes and displace 21,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
The new turbines will begin to generate power in 2016.
