Phoenix Solar Ltd, the Singapore subsidiary of Phoenix Solar AG, is to design and build a 1.2MW solar PV system for C M M Marketing Management Pte Ltd (CMM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sheng Siong Group. The new PV array will cover the rooftop of the company’s corporate headquarters and centralised distribution centre covering a surface area of around 11,000 square meters (118,400 square feet) thereby exploiting the available roof area to its fullest extent. It will effectively be the largest solar PV array in Singapore when complete and is expected to start generating energy by the end of 2013 supplying at least 15 percent of CMM Facility’s electricity consumption. It will also displace at least 730 metric tonnes per year of CO2 from Singapore’s gas-fired power stations.
Demand for bigger PV systems is growing in Singapore at a time when massive increases in PV production capacity have driven down costs to the extent that an industrial rooftop system in Singapore now pays for itself in 7 to 10 years.
“Thanks to the attractive returns on investment, we expect the installed PV capacity of Singapore to more than double in 2013, reaching at least 20 megawatt by December” said Christophe Inglin, Managing Director of Phoenix Solar. “If this growth rate continues, then within a decade, PV will become a mainstream source of electricity in Singapore.”
Phoenix Solar has acquired an excellent reputation in Southeast Asia according to the company’s CEO, Bernd Köhler, largely thanks to the ability of the company to establish a base in Singapore.
