Last week the Polish entry, named the SCIGRIP Solar Boat, successfully completed stability and speed tests on the water and the team remains confident of an excellent result in this year’s championships hosted in Holland between 28th June and 3rd July.
SCIGRIP, a global supplier of smart adhesive solutions, is sponsoring the team and providing technical advice and structural bonding products throughout the build process and also during the race.
SCIGRIP’s two component, high viscosity methacrylate (MMA) adhesive, SG 230HV has been used to bond the largest and most demanding joints such as the bulkheads, engine column and floater beam sections.
The SCIGRIP Solar Boat Team, comprised of a dedicated group of Polish engineers, has competed in the Solar Boat Regatta since the race’s creation in 2005.
Hosted in Holland, this world championship event takes places every two years and attracts entrants from all over the globe. It is a highly competitive contest which generates some dynamic boat designs and construction techniques.
Since the solar boat team's first race in 2005, it has been improving and enhancing its designs to push the boundaries in terms of performance and lightweight construction.
The team’s hard work enabled it to achieve a 2nd place in 2008, 3rd in 2012 and also to win the Innovation Award for the lightest boat of the regatta in 2012.
The team reports their 2014 entry is the most lightweight structure they have produced to date.
