Solarfun launches new PV products with reduced LID

5/2/2010

Solarfun Power Holdings Co., Ltd., a vertically integrated manufacturer of silicon ingots and photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules in China, has launched a new "ECLIPSE" line of PV cells and modules with reduced light induced degradation.

All PV modules suffer some light induced degradation (LID), mostly during the first day of exposure to sunlight. However, the new line of PV products launched by Solarfun benefits from a reduced concentration of impurities in the PV cells used, thereby reducing the relative LID to about 1% from 2% to 3%, or less than 2W compared to about 4W to 5W for a 180W module equipped with standard cells.

"We have devoted considerable resources and management attention to develop and produce differentiated products. We are proud to introduce this innovation in our new 'ECLIPSE' line with reduced LID,” says Peter Xie, President of Solarfun.

According to Solarfun, this innovation results in an increase in electricity generation of about 1% to 2% over a one, five, ten and twenty-five year period when compared with standard modules.

"The advance is made possible by our vertically integrated manufacturing model and ability to control the quality of raw materials throughout the production process. By adjusting chemical properties in both the ingot-making and cell-processing phases of manufacturing, we have achieved a low concentration of impurity while still maintaining high yields,” Xie explains.

Solarfun produces both monocrystalline and multicrystalline silicon cells and modules and manufactures 100% of its modules with PV cells produced in-house. Solarfun sells its products both through third-party distributors, OEM manufacturers and directly to system integrators. Solarfun was founded in 2004 and its products have been certified to TUV and UL safety and quality standards.
