International engineering and construction company M+W Group has been granted the ‘Solar Industry Award’ at the Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (PVSEC) in Valencia (Spain) this week. The prize was awarded to the M+W Group in the category ‘Turnkey Company of the Year’ by Solar PV Management magazine published in England.

This was one of the main points of the keynote speech made by Dr. Bertrand Piccard (Initiator and President of the Solar Impulse solar aircraft) on the opening day of the 25th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition and 5th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (25th EU PVSEC / WCPEC-5). The event opened its doors yesterday in Valencia (Spain), 12 years after the World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion was last held in Europe.

On the heels of German module manufacturers, German producers of PV inverters are now coming under pressure from Asian competitors. Though six out of 10 inverters sold worldwide are currently produced in Germany, the country’s leading position is endangered due to excessively high costs for components, indicates research by the solar power magazine, PHOTON International.

Masdar PV, a manufacturer of extra-large, thin-film PV modules, has now supplied PV modules for installation on a building façade for the first time. This PV façade solution has been realised in cooperation with Gehrlicher Solar AG, which recently presented this new type of façade system at Intersolar. The system is based on the proven gehrtec mounting system.
