Optima, a leading manufacturer of clamping systems for presses and special machines, has moved into the wind energy market and launched a new rotor-lock system for wind turbines. It says that the new device, will enable “safe and convenient inspection and maintenance of wind turbines with hydraulic and electromechanical lock Systems” and is “suitable for on- and offshore wind power stations”.

The experiment has been carried out by engineers from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and basically involves injecting compressed air into large bags buried under the dunes of Jutland. The bags would be inflated using a compressor operated by wind power.

Iberdrola Renovables, in consortium with Neoenergia, a Brazilian energy holding company, and IBERDROLA investee, has been awarded the contract for nine new wind farms in Brazil, with total installed capacity of 258 MW. It is the second contract to develop renewable energy that the company has won in Brazil.

The wind farm developer PNE WIND AG has successfully completed the repowering of the Görike wind farm in Brandenburg (Germany). The project is the second repowering project conducted by PNE WIND, which has now received official confirmation that the wind farm has met all repowering requirements.
