Scottish homes using ScottishPower’s Green Energy Trust grant to help cut emissions footprint of residents

A grant from the Green Energy Trust has helped install features such as more efficient insulation and solar panels. These features including pre heating of water mean that each resident will cut their carbon foot print by 1.5 tons per year. Currently Scottish households emit 13 million tons of C02 a year or on average 5.6 tons per residence.

Any Scottish household can currently receive a 4000 pound grant to install renewable energy technology such as wind, solar thermal heating, small-hydro, and biomass. This mix is part of a wider initiative to cut emissions by 40% by 2020.

Scotland has many facts working towards it’s advantage as a location for renewable energy in many forms. Already 12% of energy is generated from hydro electricity and with lots of water abound there is much potential. It has also been estimated that 25% of wind energy resources of Europe are in Scotland, making it an ideal spot for wind farms and small turbines.
