Dutch Companies join forces to develop fuel cell boat

 

A consortium of Dutch companies operating as Fuel Cell Boat b.v. have agreed to build a boat which will run on hydrogen and employs fuel cell technology.  The plan is for a zero emissions boat which will travel across the IJ river from the Amsterdam Central Train Station to the Shell new technology centre.

Approximately 600 Shell employees will be ferried on a daily basis to and from the central station. The boat will have a capacity of 100 passengers, and a tank station for the hydrogen will be constructed in addition.

 

While the operator will be the Lovers a Amsterdam based shipping company. A further four companies are involved in the consortium; Alewijnse, Integral, Linde Gas and Marine Service North. The vessel will be a first and can truly call itself a zero emissions vessel. The project will receive backing in the form of a subsidy from the Dutch government as well.
