The plant currently provides this to 16 households, via a cooperative called CAFARMULCO. The United Nations Development Fund and Small Grants Programme provided funding to complete a concrete canal to bring the necessary water to the micro hydro power plant which is where the charging facility was also located at.
The idea was gotten from other similar schemes in Nepal and Indonesia. Local workers from the cooperative built the canal and companies from the Philippines provided some parts for the turbine. There are no power lines due to the distance to households and the fact that this could not be paid for by the UNDP budget. Residents will be charged an amount to make the project sustainable.
