Ocean Power Technologies Ltd. Moves ahead to next stage of PowerBuoy Project in Northern Spain

OPT which has planned a wave power farm in the northern Spanish region of Cantabria has gotten its operation & matainence contract in place. The Company believes that this represents the first O&M contract awarded for a wave power station. The O&M contract follows f the engineering, procurement and construction contract which was signed at the end of July 2006.

 

The project will use OPT’s patented PowerBuoy system. Currently OPT is also involved in projects in Hawaii and New Jersey USA.  The New Jersey project has already been deployed and the Hawaii project  is slated to be deployed in 2007. The Spanish project is underway with Iberdrola and other Spanish partners.

 

The Powerbouy system will be connected to the Spanish grid and OPT will be paid for  the operation and regular maintenance of the wave energy plant for up to 10 years. The planned capacity is 1.39 MW
