Indonesia has a potential of approximately 27 gig watts of geothermal power due to the many active volcanoes as well as ones which are no longer active, but still are viable geothermal sites. The main barrier for projects thus far has been the high prohibitive cost of projects.
According to a PLN official they are in talks about setting up a joint venture. According to the Indonesian energy minister Indonesia generates 850 MW of power from geothermal sources at current. The aim to raise this to 9,500 MW by 2025. AEI which is a US company has a great deal of experience and operates infrastructure and the like in emerging countries.
