The company has already targeted ambitious targets saying last April that it would look to put 100 MW of new projects on the market over each of the coming three years and a 150 MW worth of projects each year thereafter. The new project will include a second plant of 10 MW in the Escalante Desert in Utah. The company now has three projects in Utah, three in Nevada and one in both Oregon and New Mexico.
The site in question was determined to have enough power and adequate temperature to allow for the construction of a second plant. After the first project was completed and drilling results showed this , further research was done to see whether a second plant could perhaps be located there.
"We continue to move forward in building a pipeline of geothermal projects," stated Brent M. Cook, Raser's CEO. "The results from the first Escalante Desert project in Utah were encouraging. Based upon preliminary results of the wells on the first project as well as data from other wells in the area, we are moving forward on a second 10 MW power project at this time. This may also give us some economies of scales for the well field development and accelerate the rapid deployment for both projects."
