This order comes on top of the 90 which were already ordered by Raser Technologies last year. Delivery of the now in total 200 units began in fourth quarter last year. All of the units will be delivered by the end of this year. These units will be capable of generating 40 to 45 MW of power. Down payments will be made by Raser.
Both companies are supporting the legislation that could provide a long term extension of the Production Tax Credit, this is part of the reason why Raser is looking to get these plants built before the end of the year. It is hoped that they can fulfill the potential and meet all of the requirements for tax credits.
“Accelerated development of domestic geothermal resources will produce electricity in an environmentally friendly way and contribute to U.S. energy independence,” said Brent M. Cook, chief executive officer of Raser. “We are delighted to be associated with a company like UTC Power with its unique capabilities to help us meet our rapid deployment goals.”
“The existing federal Production Tax Credit for geothermal energy resources created a valuable incentive for the purchase and deployment of these units during this calendar year,” said UTC Power President Jan van Dokkum.
