Al Gore, author of the critically acclaimed documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”, will organize a range of “global warming concerts” on no less than seven continents. The initiative goes by the name “Live Earth” and is part of the SOS (Save Our Selves) campaign. It is likened to Bob Geldof’s “Live Aid”, and seeks to rally people around the world to get behind the cause of preserving the planet and tackling climate change.
Live Earth will take place on
SOS is a partnership that includes former US Vice President Al Gore, music producer Kevin Wall, actress Cameron Diaz and musician Pharrell Williams, as well as the organizations MSN, Control Room (of which Wall is CEO) and The Alliance for Climate Protection. Control Room organizes and executes the performances, MSN will webcast the event live, and all proceeds go to The Alliance for Climate Protection.
“We have a climate crisis that is a planetary emergency”, said Al Gore. The concerts are part of what he called a “mass persuasion campaign”. Live Earth is expected to become the most viewed event ever, reaching over 2 billion people in at least 120 countries. Actress Cameron Diaz added “This is the start of something very big. It's the start of awareness of our planet, of our climate crisis.”
