The future Directive will aim to double the share of renewables in
The EU MPs have requested ambitious national goals and support schemes allowing renewables to achieve competitive prices. The scenarios depend upon each
“It is a big success for the EU Parliament and for the future of energy supply in Europe”, stated Ms Mechtild Rothe, Eufores President, who is convinced that renewables “must be supported and reinforced in order to achieve a greater energy supply reliability, a better environment and a greater innovative competitiveness in Europe”.
“I hope the next spring EU summit brings a true commitment towards an energy strategy focusing on renewable energies and energy efficiency. It would be unjustifiable, both in economic and ecological terms, to lose the chance of taking advantage of the renewables’ great potential”.
Also the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) has welcomed the decision widely supported by the EU Parliament. Its Policy Director, Mr Oliver Schäfer, assured to be “glad for the initiative; now it is time to wait and see this legislative proposal announced by Commissioner Piebalgs brings along for this year”.
