King Mohamed VI has laid the foundation stone of the Ain Beni Mathar thermo-solar electricity plant, the first one in the country.
King Mohamed VI did so at a ceremony attended by the African Development Bank's Resident Representative in Morocco, Mr Nono Matondo-Fundani.
The project will be located 86 km South of Oujda in eastern Morocco, and it will feature an installed capacity of 472 MW. The project kickstarted three years ago and now has the finance in place, totalling € 400 million. The African Development Bank, the Global Environment Fund, Spain's Instituto de Credito Oficial and Morocco's National Grid Corporation are providing the finance for the project.
