France introduces new solar feed-in tariff

The legislation includes a new type of feed-in tariff for commercial buildings. The country currently gets most of its electricity from nuclear plants.

France’s goal will from now on power 23% of the country’s needs by 2020, with solar topping 5.4 GW of capacity in the country by then. The country will create a feed-in tariff for commercial buildings that will reach an impressive 0.45 eur / kWh, with no size limit.

The country aims to promote facilities mainly on buildings, which is probably a good strategy in order to preserve the landscape and avoid the type of mega-facilities that have been built in countries like Spain. For this reason, the ground-mounted feed-in tariff will remain at 0.30 eur / kWh.

Probably the most interesting tariff is, however, for building-integrated systems, which stands today at an astonishing 0.55 eur / kWh. Additionally, for small projects (of up to 450 kWp) it will be possible to register the plants online.

All the feed-in tariffs will be valid for 20 years, and they will be redesigned in 2012.
