The 2007 edition of Genera, which is supposed to be an energy and environment exhibition, has seen twice as many visitors as last year and an increased focus on solar energy. Many experts suggest that the fair is becoming a serious competitor of German Intersolar.
Solar thermal and Solar photovoltaic energies have become Genera's star technologies in 2007. Indeed, they have not only been the main focus at Genera, but also in the nearby climatization exhibition, given the synergies of solar energy with air conditioning and heating technologies. The growth in the number of exhibitors has been so big that IFEMA, the fair organizer, had to open additional space adjacent to pavillion number 5 in order to provide room for all.
These days, Genera shows the solar industry's momentum; manufacturers show their latest designs and solutions, both in solar thermal and solar photovoltaic, promoters look for land with permits granted to install solar parks (huertas solares) and installation firms offer their services according to the new building technical code (Código Técnico de la Edificación).
The fair is also becoming international: 34% more companies coming from 19 different countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, China, Chipre, Denmark, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Holland, Poland, UK, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden and Turkey.
Simultaneous to Genera's commercial exhibition, a technical conferences program has seen interesting discussions related to solar energy, biofuels, the role of renewable energy in the UN's Clean Development Mechanisms, renewable energy legislation, cogeneration, bioenergy and solar thermal energy in the new Spanish building code.
