The facility will be located in the the Parque Tecnológico de Galicia (Orense), a technological business park. The plant, partially owned by Galicia's regional government (at 30%) will be built by Applied Materials, an American firm.
The factory will be completed by mid 2008, and will boast a production capacity of 40 MW per year, twice as much as the industry standards.
Isolux will produce “ultra large” modules, with an area of 5.7 m2 (2.2 m x 2.6 m). “By using these larger modules, we can reduce production costs while duplication the nominal production capacity", stated Applied Materials in a press release.
Isolux is also promoting its own solar parks in Galicia to use the first batch of equipment manufactured at the plant. "Own promotion will be a good market strategy, as it will allow us to test our material before sending it to the open market, so as monitoring its performance in our own plants", said Mr Juan Laso, T-Solar CEO, at Expansión, a business newspaper.
