New solar PV subsidy in Holland

Ms Maria van der Hoeven, Dutch Minister of Economy, has announced the introduction of a government subsidy for solar PV electricity. A similar system existed in the system some years ago but it was phased out overnight. The feed-in tariff is expected to amount to 33 euro cents per kWh, which given the radiation conditions in the country and the current technology prices would yield a payback period of around 15 years.

The new legislation is part of a new policy intended to stimulate renewable energy policies, and it also includes incentives to promote wind power and bioenergy; the policy can be interpreted as a sign from the government to comply with the ambitious renewable energy plans presented by the European Commission on the 23rd of January.
