Germany's Q-Cells AG was the world's largest producer of solar cells in 2007, even ahead of Japan's Sharp Corp. in the rankings, according to preliminary results from PHOTON International. The German firm manufactured an impressive 370 megawatts (MW) last year.
The final results will be published in the March issue of PHOTON International.
Suntech Power Co. Ltd, a Chinese manufacturer, came third in the ranking, confirming the ambitions of the Asian country's solar PV industry.
