"This event not only furthers the ties between the United States and Europe but it will also further foster the development and use of energy efficient and sustainably developed housing throughout the world," said Mr Fernando Magro Fernández, Spanish Undersecretary of Housing.
The contest will be held in Europe in 2010 thanks to an agreement signed by Mr Magro Fernández and Mr Alexander Karsner, US Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
www.renewableenergymagazine.com has informed just today of the results of the 2007 Solar Decathlon, won by a German team. The Solar Decathlon will not be new to Madrid, as a University from the city (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) has traditionally taken part in the American contest.
From now on, America will organize the contest on odd-numbered years and Europe will host its decathlon on even-numbered years.
"The twin challenges of increasing energy security and confronting climate change are global in nature -- the solutions will require multilateral action," added Mr Karsner of the Energy Department.
