"The government ensures continuity for the solar PV industry". These were the words stated in the press release written by ASIF after its latest board meeting.
Mr Javier Margarit, IDAE's Director and ASIF's Spokesperson, said that "nothing will be over" after September 2008, when the current Royal Decree 661/07 phases out. According to him, the Ministry of Energy has always supported the solar PV industry. Notwithstanding, he also highlighted the fact that the growth rates seen are not sustainable albeit they have increased employment in the solar PV sector by 1,500%. Mr Margarit added that growth should be more moderate and investments more sustainable and stable, so that the quality of solar PV facilities is ensured.
Last, but not least, Mr Margarit spoke about the production of solar PV panels in Spain, which is forecast to reach 900 MW in 2008 and an astonishing 2,500 MW in 2010. In the meeting, Mr Javier Anta was re-elected as President of the association.
The new legislation is expected to be released just a few days after it is completed, according to ASIF, which has at the moment 472 member companies. Most analysts expect the new Royal Decree to be released before the summer.
