SunPower Corp is the provider of the panels in the plant, which is being financed by MMA Renewables.
The plant is expected to save the Air Force base roughly $1 million per year. The biggest difference between this plant and other large solar PV plants in the world (mainly located in Europe) is that the US Air Force's facility will be used to power the base rather than power the gri Nellis will pay less for its electricity during the next 25 years through a Purchase Power Agreement (PPA). At the moment some 14,000 people work in the base.
The project, which is being build in the Nellis Air Force base, will be completed in the coming months. It uses tracking technology that are expected to improve performance by almost one third, compared to traditional fixed systems. The new solar PV facility is expected to provide around 25% of the electricity used at the base.
