Voluntary return system for solar PV modules introduced in Europe

Green energy is getting greener. Through the recently created the 'European Association for the Recovery of Photovoltaic Modules AISBL', defective or used solar modules will be recovered and recycled, thus reducing the impact of solar PV throughout its lifecycle.

The association, set up by Avancis, Conergy, Isofoton, SCHOTT Solar, Solarworld, Sulfurcell Solartechnik, BSW and EPIA, and known in short as PV CYCLE, will design a pan European collection, recovery and recycling system. The first voluntary scheme will be in place next year.
Additionally, PV CYCLE will work on the creation of a waste management policy to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the process. Research into the matter will also be promoted.

This is good news for the industry, which has been long criticized for not being as green as it boasts to be, due to the fact that a lot of energy is used in the manufacturing of solar equipment. Now the lifecycle of solar equipment will definitely start to be more respectful with the environment. Of course, and in order to achieve a greater impact, all solar companies are invited to join.
