Endesa to develop 200 MW of solar electric thermal plants in Seville

Endesa and Instituto Hispánico del Arroz (Hispanic Rice Institute, main shareholder of food giant Ebro Puleva group) have signed an agreement to develop four 50-MW plants south of Seville, totalling 200 MW. Endesa, who will be the plants' main shareholder, expects the plants to be operational during 2011. The projects have kickstarted already, and they will require investments totalling 1.24 billion euros. The plants will have a thermal storage system that will increase energy production, allowing production even during cloudy periods.

Through the agreement, Ebro-Puleva will provide the piece of land, called 'El Italiano'. Endesa will manage the development, engineering, construction, assembly and operation of the plants.

The net production of each one of this plants is 590 GWh/year, which will prevent the emission of 306,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
