The plant will sit on an impressive 1 square mile of land. The electricity will be purchased by Pacific Gas and Electric Co., after an agreement was recently signed. This plant will allow, according to the developer, to deliver power at 10.4 dollar cents per kWh, bringing it down by 2.5 cents (to 7.9 cents) in three years time, which would make this technology competitive with fossil fuels.
"It's going to be the first of many solar-thermal power plants that are going to get built," CEO Mr Robert Fishman, CEO of Ausra, said. "The technology has the ability to deploy the most megawatts of any renewable energy that's out there and this is a great start", he added.
Ausra has already built a solar electric thermal plant in Australia, totalling 1 MW, and it plans to have 5 more megawatts in January this coming January.
