Acciona has announced that it will move forward with construction work on its 45-MW wind farm in New Brunswick (Canada). The facility, which is 100% owned by the company, consists of thirty 1.5 MW turbines using Acciona Windpower technology, and will be operational in early 2011.The project will represent an investment of 115 million Canadian dollars (€85.2 million).
Acciona will sell the power produced by the wind farm to the utility New Brunswick Power under a 25-year contract. The site is located on the island of Lamèque (Arcadia peninsula) in the north east of the province, on the Atlantic coast of Canada. Representatives of the Government of New Brunswick and other entities in the province have expressed their satisfaction with the forward movement of the project.
Acciona Energy already has three wind farms in Canada totalling 136 MW with local partners Suncor and Enbridge. Two of these wind farms – Magrath and Chin Chute (each with a capacity of 30 MW) – are located in the province of Alberta, while the third – Ripley (76 MW) –is in Ontario.
