China Huadian looks to buy up to 142 wind turbines

China Huadian Corp a large Chinese utility has agreed to buy 142 wind turbines from China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry.

This deal was formed under a wind power cooperation pact and is worth about $200 million USD or 1.4 billion yuan. The first phase will see the installation of 20 turbines with a combined capacity of 36.3 MW this year in central China.

Hunan, Fang Yi, an official at Huadian's alternative energy development subsidiary was quoted as saying; "This year we plan to start building up wind power capacity of 300 megawatts," Further orders will be dependent on the satisfaction with the performance of the initial set of turbines.

China has set lofty goals and been making big strides in the wind sector this past year, with the target for total installed wind capacity being raised from 5 GW to 10 GW by 2010. China had 4.03 GW of installed capacity as of late 2007, this represents about 0.6 percent of power generation in China.
