Horizon Wind Energy Signs Wind Turbine Supply deal with GE Energy

The company which is headquartered in Houston, Texas is a fully owned subsidiary of Energias de Portugal S.A. (EDP). By the end of 2007 Horizon had a total of 1,300 MW of installed wind capacity, with projects on the books for a further 10,500 MW across the continental United States. These follow on an agreement reached in October of last year for 500 MW of turbines to be supplied by GE for 2008 and 2009. These would be under a framework agreement and placed in Europe and the United States. No word exactly where the new turbines will be placed.

According to Victor Abate Vice President-Renewables for GE Energy “The new agreements with Horizon are further evidence that the wind industry continues to embrace our 1.5-megawatt wind turbine technology and support services. We have provided more than 7,700 of these machines for projects worldwide.”

GE Energy Financial Services is also providing equity for four wind farms in the form of a $300 million USD equity investment. Sean Fitzgerald, GE Energy's product line leader said; "It's significant for us. This is a large volume order,". He also said GE sells about 3,000 of the wind turbines a year.
