Idaho Power Co. wants to invest additional funds into wind power

Idaho Power Co. hopes to use money which will come from revenue earned by curbing sulfur pollution to fund further investments into wind power.

Officials will ask the state for permission first, however this viewed as a way to save consumers even more money in the long run. During the course of 2007 Idaho Power has sold 35,000 sulfur dioxide emissions for 19.6 million USD , this according to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. After all costs including brokerage fees , income taxes, and Oregon's share are deducted 10.1 million USD are left over. Usually company's elect to use this money to offset power costs, thereby passing the savings on to the consumer. Another suggestion which the company has come up with is buying so called green tags. The green tag is something which companies get for each MW of electricity that has been bought from renewable energy sources. If state or federal regulations in the future require utilities to generate a percentage of their power from clean sources the price of these so called green tags could go up quiet dramatically hence buying them now would offer a solid investment for the future.
