ScottishPower Renewables has completed construction of its first wind turbine at Greenknowes Windfarm

The 18 turbines in the park will deliver up to 27 MW of green renewable wind energy to 15,000 homes.

The project which is being built in Perthshire, which is south of Auchterarder has successfully had its first turbine installed. Construction began in May 2007. The turbines are expected to be hooked up and exporting power to the grid by this summer, with final completion expected for the fall. Acciona of Spain is providing the turbines.

Keith Anderson, ScottishPower Renewables Director, said: “The Scottish Government has set considerable renewable energy targets and we are delighted to be working in Perth and Kinross in pursuit of these goals.

Greenknowes Windfarm is an important element of our wind development programme, and is a fantastic example of utilising Scotland’s abundant wind resources for environmental benefit.”
