Siemens and E.ON to build a massive offshore wind farm in Denmark

Siemens will supply 207 MW of turbines to E.ON, which is currently developing the Rødsand II windpark on the Baltic Sea, which is expected to be completed by 2010. The deal value will be around 275 m eur.

Located near the town of Lolland,  Rødsand II (which will be built by Rødsand I) will use 2.3-megawatt turbines with a rotor diameter of 93 meters. Siemens will also do the maintenance of the plant during the first 2 years of operation.

According to Mr René Umlauft, CEO of the Siemens Renewable Energy Division, his company is, with over 1,800 MW of offshore capacity, the number one supplier of marine wind turbines. The company wants now to replicate the great success of Rødsand I. The two windparks will prevent the emission of an astonishing 700,000 tonnes of CO2 by 2010.

This agreement is part of a framework agreement between the two German companies, totaling 1,150 MWs of wind turbine supplies for the coming years.
