Six offshore areas for wind turbine installation in Taiwan

The Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) will open up six sea areas off the coast of Taiwan for offshore windparks and almost 300 MW.  The estimated value of the project for the local economy will be greater than 1 billion dollars, according to government officials. The installation registration process will start tomorrow, with some big companies expected (among them, China Steel, Formosa Heavy Industries Corp and TECO Electric & Machinery Co.).

The government has already described the areas where the projects are to be developed. The chosen companies will have 3 years to complete their projects or else their permits will expire. Joint ventures with international companies are also permited.

This piece of news represents the first of stage of the government's "offshore wind power development guidelines".
