Mesa Power, the company that plans to develop the project, presented last week its plans to hundreds of landowners, which would perceive generous benefits from the project. The estimated cost would be around $6 billion, including grid lines. The company has spent some months trying to determine the best locations to build the facility.
The construction proposal has not been submitted yet. Construction works could start in three years, although it would take some years to complete, given the size of the project.
Texas already houses the world's largest windfarm, located close to Abilene and amounting to 735.5 MW. The state leads the wind energy capacity league in the country, since former Governor George W. Bush launched a program to promote wind energy some years ago. Now all he needs to do is launch the same initiative for the whole country.
