Make Consulting’ reports that its league of wind turbine manufactures has experienced several changes, primarily due to the growth of the Chinese market. “Despite a drop in Vesta’s market share in 2009, the company has continued to defend its number one position,” confirms the company. The report shows that the Danish company’s share of the world market has dropped by approximately 14.5% in 2009 (20% in 2008).
According to Make Consulting, the most interesting movement between 2008 and 2009 is due to the Chinese now having two players in the top five and five players in the top 10. With total installations of 3,495 MW and 2,722 MW in China alone, Sinovel and Goldwind are now ranked third and fifth, respectively.
The Chinese effect, combined with the strength of the American multinational, GE Energy (ranked second), and the return of Enercon to the top five, has relegated a previous heavyweight, the Spanish company Gamesa, to seventh place, with 6% of the market, compared to 11-15.6% in the previous two years.
