The company explains that the investments will result in a 195 million litre increase in ethanol production. It will also boost its cogeneration capacity by 913 GWh from the current 259 GWh to 1,172 GWh per year.
Attention will focus on investments in the Cruz Alta, Tanabi, São José, Mandu and Vertente manufacturing facilities. The first phase of the expansion project will require $228 million (€161 million) and includes boosting the processing capacity of the São José and Mandu units to 1.2 million tonnes. The cogeneration units at São José, Mandu, Cruz Alta and Tanabi will also be increased by 651 GWh.
To support the investment plan, the company has procured $475 million (€333 million) from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES). In addition to the line of loans from BNDES, Azúcar Guarani has also received $120 million (€85 million) from Petrobras Biocombustibles, increasing its stake in the sugar and ethanol producer from 26.5% to 31, 4%. Internacional Tereos holds has the remaining 68.6%.
