The airport is Avfuel’s first location to offer SAF in the state of Arizona, positioning it as a leader in eco-conscious aviation operations. While the fuel is available for sale to general aviation operations, it is also used to support the region’s aerial firefighting activities, providing a cleaner alternative to help protect nearby communities and the beautiful surrounding wilderness.
The authority’s airport manager, Ed Rose, said, “We are excited to incorporate SAF into our growing list of sustainability initiatives. SAF is a safe, proven and sustainable blend of jet fuel that will help the Sedona Airport be a good neighbor and do its part to reduce the overall production of greenhouse gasses.”
Avfuel’s first truckload of SAF arrived at Red Rock Aviation on June 5, enabling its customers to immediately and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Moving forward, the FBO will receive a consistent supply of the fuel—about once every two months, or once every 10th delivery of jet fuel—enabling its customers to steadily advance their ESG goals.
The fuel—produced by Neste in Long Beach, California, and branded as Neste MY Sustainable Aviation FuelTM—averages one of the highest blend ratios available in business aviation to date (30/70 SAF to petroleum-based jet fuel). Each 8,000-gallon truckload delivery provides a 19 metric ton reduction in carbon emissions over the fuel’s lifecycle. That’s the equivalent of taking 4.5 passenger vehicles off the road for a year.
