The four sites, when complete, will have a combined capacity of 8MW and will operate by turning organic waste into biogas, digestate (a nutrient-rich fertilizer) and water. A further 14 sites are in various stages of development.
The four new sites are located at Farleigh in Hampshire, Holbeach Hurn in Lincolnshie, Retford in Nottinghamshire and Halstead in Essex. The Farleigh and Holbeach Hurn sites will be commissioned in 2013 with the Retford and Halstead sites following in 2014. Farleigh and Holbeach Hurn will each generate around 1.5MW of electricity while Halstead will generate 2MW and Retford 3MW.
“We are very pleased to report that work is on or ahead of schedule at our sites, and we are in advanced stages of negotiations with local waste contractors in and around Hampshire and Essex for our plants in Farleigh and Halstead” said the Chairman and Chief Executive of Tamar Energy, Mr Alan Lovell. “Our innovative funding model means we are in a unique position in the AD industry to deliver on our promise of a cost-effective, reliable and sustainable energy and waste management solution for local councils and waste contractors alike.”
It is expected that the network in its entirety will be generating 100MW of electricity and gas by the time it is complete in 2018. This will be enough to power more than 200,000 homes.
