The four sites, when complete, will have a combined capacity of 8MW and will operate by turning organic waste into biogas, digestate (a nutrient-rich fertilizer) and water. A further 14 sites are in various stages of development.
The four new sites are located at Farleigh in Hampshire, Holbeach Hurn in Lincolnshie, Retford in Nottinghamshire and Halstead in Essex. The Farleigh and Holbeach Hurn sites will be commissioned in 2013 with the Retford and Halstead sites following in 2014. Farleigh and Holbeach Hurn will each generate around 1.5MW of electricity while Halstead will generate 2MW and Retford 3MW.

It is expected that the network in its entirety will be generating 100MW of electricity and gas by the time it is complete in 2018. This will be enough to power more than 200,000 homes.
