The 9.9 megawatt electric (MWe) plant is fuelled by rice husk and bagasse and will generate electricity for around 8,000 households.
AREVA was responsible for the plant design and also provided engineering services and most of the main equipment. It also supervised the testing and commissioning of the plant. Ensys supplied auxiliary equipment and provided construction services.
“Despite the complexity of such a project, AREVA and Ensys delivered a power plant, which meets all our expectations” said Adisak Martsri, Director of U-Thong Bio Power. “The first few weeks of operations, have confirmed the success of the project.”
AREVA has already delivered two similar biomass plants in Thailand, and is currently building two additional units both in Thailand and the Philippines. The group has also contributed to the installation of 95 biomass power plants worldwide, representing a total of 2.5 GW of installed capacity.
