According to the story in Manila's Standard Today, the government is reaching out to numerous parties to help study the country's potential to tap renewable energy resources.
The effort to enlist US help was revealed by Energy Undersecretary Jay Layug as he attended the ongoing 7th Clean Energy Asia Forum at the Asian Development Bank headquarters in Ortigas.
Layug told the newspaper, “We are in discussion with them [USAID] on how they can further help the government in resource assessments and we mention that one of those areas is biomass. What we hope to do is identify areas that have a lot of agricultural wastes and municipal wastes and those will be the more viable sites for biomass plants."
USAID is international aid arm of the US government that has been providing economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for over 40 years.
Layug said the government was also pursuing discussion with the Asian Development Bank for a separate technical assistance on wind resource assessment.
