FireBox Energy Systems has developed and patented a unique power generation platform under the trade name AirBoiler, which can be used to produce electricity using virtually any type of combustible material as feedstock, but without the need for valuable water.
AirBoiler will be used in the new facility planned for Glenevis, which the company describes as “complementary to Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation’s cultural values and the Alberta Government’s guidelines under the Provincial Energy Strategy”, because it uses an efficient, eco-friendly technology to produce power for the Alberta economy.
Construction of the demonstration phase is expected to commence early in 2012 and to take approximately 13 months to complete.Once the project has been successfully completed and commissioned, FireBox and partners will proceed to develop a larger, 270-megawatt biomass facility on the same Designated Land.
“Both FireBox and the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation are looking forward to the completion of this state-of-the-art facility and to realize the many benefits to be derived from the AirBoiler technology;” said the company in a press statement.
