The announcement, entitled “Bioenergy Technologies Incubator 2,” is expected to be published in July on the EERE Exchange website.
The agency's intent is to encourage research and development of bioenergy technologies, and increasing the scale of such activities to enhance their commercial viability.
It went on to caution potential applicants that the funding will not be given to incremental improvements to current products or well-established practices or procedures.
According to the agency, the funding opportunity will have two main components:
The first will be open to all proposals that seek to develop novel, non-incremental technologies in the field of algae as biofuel
The second will be open to all proposals that seek to develop novel, non-incremental technologies biomass feedstocks and their conversion into energy.
The estimated period of performance for each award will be approximately 12-24 months.
