Media reports immediately after the fire said more than 100 firefighters were called to the Tilbury, England biomass plant.
As of this morning the cause of the fire was undetermined, but the UK branch of the German company said a full internal investigation is underway.
In the meantime, emergency service personnel continue to conduct their own review.
Since the fire, the company said in a press release, workers at the plant have been removing the pellet fuel from Units 9 and 10.
A third unit, Unit 8, is currently generating energy in order to safely empty its hopper of any remaining biomass, RKE said.
The plant began producing clean power only last month, after a conversion from cola-powered generation to a method using wood pellets produced at RWE’s operations in the US and Canada.
When all three units are operating, the facility is expected to produce 750 MW of power.
