For over 30 years, SafeLane Global has been mitigating explosive threats on land and in the marine environment. We have deployed across the globe, and support our clients with everything from project design and embedded consultancy to large scale clearance operations and turn key solutions. We have extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, most recently in Vietnam and Mozambique. Founded in 1989, SafeLane Global was one of the first private companies involved in the mine action industry. We played an integral role in the creation of industry guidelines and policies, and our work is underpinned by rigorous quality assurance systems certified by ISO 9001:2008. These are based on International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and individual country national standards. Additionally, SafeLane is accredited to ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 with experienced field operatives working to IMAS. We have successfully delivered over 25,000 contracts in 60 countries, including some of the world’s most hazardous and remote environments. SafeLane’s explosive threat management services include: Desktop studies (DTS): Once we are provided with your project location we can carry out an in-depth risk assessment which considers factors including: Risk of explosive hazard contamination Risk of explosive hazard remaining Risk of encountering explosive hazards Risk of initiation Mine and UXO risk mitigation strategy: We can provide you with the most efficient survey and clearance methodology to reduce the risk in line with ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) based on your intended activities. The project specific risk mitigation strategy will be tailored based on the project construction plans and timelines with the aim to minimize any disruptions to project activities. Quality Management (QM): SafeLane provides the full suite of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for survey and clearance operations for onshore and offshore projects. As an example, in Vietnam only military clearance companies are allowed to conduct clearance operations. Adding an external and QM layer ensures that the UXO survey / clearance plan is efficient and all explosive hazards are removed in accordance with IMAS and national requirements. Blast modelling and offshore penetration depth analysis: We can provide a report detailing the impact to your project if UXO were to detonate close to key infrastructure points and to what depth we are likely to encounter items of ordnance in a marine environment. Toolbox training: As part of your health and safety procedures, SafeLane Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts would train construction personnel to identify and respond appropriately to any ordnance found on site in the course of activities. We also offer embedded EOD experts to work with you on your project. Explosive threat management experience snapshot: SafeLane is conducting large scale mine, UXO and IED survey and clearance operations in Yemen in support of Project Masam deploying over 400 local national personnel. Land and marine teams are currently providing explosive threat risk mitigation support for onshore and offshore wind farms in the UK and in Vietnam. In the UK and Germany we continue to clear explosive remnants of WWI and WWII for construction and infrastructure clients. SafeLane works regularly in support of the UN and is currently operational in Western Sahara, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Mali providing mine and UXO survey and clearance, training, mentoring, canine services and counter-IED services. We have detection and protection dog teams operational globally, most notably for multiple nations’ embassies in Afghanistan. In 2019 -2021 SafeLane undertook UXO survey and clearance project of 40 km2 of land in Kuwait. It worked to support the construction of a new city in Al Mutlaa where 28,288 family homes are being built.
