In partnership with GridBeyond, charge points are deployed as demand-side assets in SFFR programmes through Monta’s PowerBank feature. PowerBank is a preventative smart energy solution that detects imbalances in the electrical grid and briefly pauses charging sessions to prevent power outages.
Monta connects thousands of charge points to the grid, helping to distribute and alleviate stress caused by fluctuating electricity production. Consumption charge point owners actively contribute to grid stability while earning Monta Wallet credits as a reward.
This approach enables businesses and individuals to participate in grid-balancing initiatives, helping their communities avoid blackouts and supporting a more resilient energy infrastructure.
EV charging stations are often concentrated in urban areas, generating high electricity demand in specific locations. This can strain the local grid, impacting EV charging availability and the overall power supply to homes and businesses.
“PowerBank is a game-changer for alleviating pressure on the electrical grid” said Alex Iriondo, Grid Services Product Manager at Monta. “As EV adoption continues to grow, we must build a resilient, sustainable infrastructure that ensures both accessibility and stability. This partnership with GridBeyond underscores Monta’s commitment to smart, responsible energy management, leveraging EV charging networks not just as power consumers, but as active grid supporters. By integrating EV assets into SFFR, we are demonstrating how charge points can play a pivotal role in the future of energy.”
During times of grid imbalance, caused by sudden power dips or demand surges, smart EV charging becomes crucial in stabilising the system and preventing disruptions. By integrating charge points into the grid as flexible energy assets, Monta and GridBeyond are helping to make EV infrastructure a key factor in future energy planning.
