In stark contrast to the queues outside petrol forecourts the UKs electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure continues to evolve with EV charging app, Monta, allowing businesses to make their private charge points available to the public.
The smart queue app will allow EV drivers to join virtual queues at one or more charging sites and get instantly notified when a point becomes available. This will significantly reduce the chances of vehicles running out of power while making long journeys, and could revolutionise how we ‘fuel’ our cars in the future.
This move will also help to ease the demand on UK charge point infrastructure, with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders predicting more than 700 EV charge points per day will need to be installed in the UK by 2030 if we are to meet the Government’s target.
“This smart queue feature is a game changer for businesses and consumers alike” said Alok Dubey, UK Country Manager at Monta. “Finding an available charge point when you’re on the road can be difficult, and even if you do manage to find one, there is almost no guarantee that it will be free to use by the time you get there. With the smart queue feature, businesses can increase the occupancy rate of the UKs EV charge point infrastructure. The smart queue feature gets rid of the problem of waiting in line for your next charge. Can you imagine what this type of virtual booking system would have done for petrol and diesel powered cars in recent weeks?”
Aimed at businesses that have EV charge points installed to service their employees, the smart queue feature increases the occupancy rate of charge points by letting employees queue up virtually. This means that businesses don't have to invest in one charge point per employee, instead they can have two charge points to serve all employees.
Outside office hours, businesses can make their charge points publicly available and allow EV drivers to book a charge point via the Monta app whilst on their journey. Once reserved, the charger will only work for allocated drivers as long as the reservation is active.
The Monta app has already seen 10,000 active users make more than 100,000 EV charges since it launched in February, and it connects with the UK’s most popular charging stations, reducing the complexity and amount of subscriptions required to access public charge points.
The new feature comes off the back of Monta’s recent UK launch in August 2021 having raised a total of £4.2 million (5 million euros) in capital investment since its creation in December 2020, including early investors of electric vehicle leader Tesla.
