NEVS intended annual product capacity is 50,000 electric vehicles in Phase I of the project and 220,000 vehicles during Phase II. The company is working with innovation and development centres in both China and Sweden, intending to produce three generations of the car, with the second and third generation developed in close cooperation with DiDi Chuxing. DiDi predicts there will be 1 million electric cars running on its platform by 2020.
Furthermore, NEVS has initiated a Joint Venture with Chinese ride-sharing company DiDi, GEIDCO (Global Energy Interconnection Corporation), termed GNEVS (Global New Energy Vehicle Service Company Limited) which will provide services and infrastructure to develop a number of autonomous vehicle variants.
The vehicle will have a 300-kilometre (185-mile) range and will mostly be used in urban environments. Customers will be able to acquire one of the vehicles without purchasing it outright, via a subscription-based business model. The new JV will also be working with a number of cities in a pilot mobile plan which will involve some form of ridesharing.
