"With a total of 315,669 units sold in 2010, the Toyota Prius has broken the sales record in Japan for any vehicle," said a recent Toyota press release. The Japanese carmaker also reveals that Prius sales have increased by over 50% over the last year.
Launched in Japan in 1997, the Prius was released in Europe over ten years ago. According to Toyota, worldwide sales "continue to consolidate and now exceed 2,083,000 units, sales in Europe are over 211,000 units". Last year, Toyota also launched a plug-in hybrid Prius.
Toyota has set a goal to "sell a million hybrid vehicles a year as soon as possible during this decade". The latest generation of its flagship hybrid, Prius is Latin for "that which came before". It has four selectable driving modes with highly advanced and innovative features, such as a solar powered ventilation system.
