In unveiling the plan, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also revealed the company is creating a fleet of 100 “loaner” cars that Model S owners can drive while their own sedans are in the shop.
In an innovative marketing turn, the loaners will be the most expensive version of the Model S -- a model that starts at a mere $94,900 -- with a host of bells and whistles and the company's best battery range.
If a Model S owner likes the loaner better than his own car, he can trade in his original sedan and buy the loaner at a discount, Musk said.
Adding to the luxury treatment, each loaner will be delivered to the Model S owner in need of a repair by a valet.
Musk told reporters these new touches are all part of an effort to create the best service and warranty program in the automotive industry.
